Clinton County through the Eyes of its Children

Colorful tile mosaic with history telling tiles and the side of the brick county building

“Clinton County History through the Eyes of its Children” was a mosaic project involving seventh grade students throughout Clinton County. Conceived and designed by Sandra Morse, Bucky Seiden, and Sue Young, the project used art as a vehicle to discover and preserve our local history. The project asked seventh grade students throughout Clinton County to research a specific time period, create a poster using that research, and then create handmade tiles for the larger mosaic to be installed on the Clinton County Government Center.

As the project progressed, the students created posters, tiles, and essays, all dealing with local history.  The timeline represented on the mosaic moves from the period before Samuel de Champlain’s arrival until 1878, when the Village of Keeseville was chartered.  Those efforts were displayed in a variety of ways, from local exhibits, to a county-wide unveiling ceremony, to a published text to accompany the mosaic.
