How our program works
As certified child passenger safety technicians, we provide parents and guardians with guidance and education through the child safety restraint installation process. Through a grant funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, our program can provide car seats to parents/guardians in the event that a deficiency is found and there is a financial need. If you, as a parent or guardian are financially unable to purchase a new seat, you would be advised to contact one of the county’s social service agencies to obtain documentation of a legitimate financial need unless you are already affiliated with social services and have current documentation. Documentation must be presented at the time of the appointment before seat is to be released.

Main Goal:
Our primary goal, as child passenger safety technicians, is to always ensure children leave us safer than when they arrived!
Use either a rear-facing only seat or a convertible seat until the child reaches the weight or height limit of the seat.
Recommendation is children remain rear-facing until at least age 2. Rear-facing seat with harness provides the most protection.
Use child safety seat with harness until child reaches weight or height limit or harness. The harness can range from 40 - 90 lbs. Seat with a harness provides more protection.
Use a booster when the child outgrows the harnessed seat. Purpose of booster is to raise the child up so the lap-shoulder safety belt fits properly. Booster's weight limit can range up to 110 lbs.
Use a lap-should belt when the child can sit safely without a booster seat. This is usually at 4 feet 9 inches when the child is between 8 - 12 years old.
- NEVER place a rear-facing child safety seat in front of an active airbag.
- All children should remain seated in the back seat until age 13.
- Follow manufacturer's instructions about replacing a seat after a crash.
Important Note
Parents often look forward to transitioning from one stage or milestone to the next when it comes to their children. When dealing with child safety restraints, it is important to note that this is one area where transitions are not necessarily “positive”. Delaying transitions here is best! Each transition, from rear-facing to forward-facing, from forward facing to booster, and lastly from a booster seat to the seat belt—lowers the protection of the child. So don’t be in a hurry! Keep your child in each stage as long as the car seat manufacturer allows.
