Personal Emergency Response System
By simply pushing a button, you can get emergency help 24 hours a day. A Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) consists of a base unit that is connected to your existing landline phone line and a small “button” unit. You wear the button as a necklace or a bracelet.
What happens when I push the button?
The unit automatically dials the emergency response center for you. The operator will contact you to determine your emergency. At that time, the operator will notify whoever is on your emergency contact list. Your list may include family, friends or even 911.
What if I accidentally push the button?
Some of the devices use a emergency response center operator will call you and ask you if you need assistance. Simply tell her no help is needed.
Others will just call your responder and you can tell them you are okay.
How much does it cost?
There are several agencies and companies offering Personal Emergency Response Systems which offer a variety of packages and varying costs.
Some options have installation fees, some have monthly costs, some are answered by call centers, some go directly to family members or emergency services.
